National port strike in Portugal

May 24 | 2017

Global International in Portugal has advised that there will be a national strike in the country from 8am on 30 May until 8am on 19 June.

The strike will affect all main ports: Lisbon, Setúbal, SInes, Figueira da Foz Port, Leixões, Caniçal e Praia da Vitória.

Global is expecting all household goods downloads to completely stop during the length of the strike since the port will only guarantee minimum services for high priority containers. Unfortunately, household goods are not considered priority.

The company asks for all clients and partners with shipments arriving during those dates to please be patient. Global is working with the Lisbon Customs Authorities to reorganize the clearance process. It recommends that companies try to negotiate demurrage at origin whenever possible.
