New ‘sustainable’ London self store

Mar 16 | 2024

London-based self-storage company HOLD has opened its debut storage facility in the heart of Kings Cross, the first of five sites the company plans to open across London by the end of 2025, before building an integrated platform of more than 20 stores by 2030.

Kings Cross SiteHOLD wants to disrupt the self storage industry with cutting-edge technology, a sustainable approach and highly personal service. This includes aiming to be the first in the industry to achieve BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) Outstanding sustainability ratings, with 90% of existing materials at some sites being recycled.

Technology plans include augmented reality overlays of unit sizes to a real-world setting, app-controlled unit access, electronic locks, facial recognition, enhanced security measures and other customer-focussed features underpinned by a best-in-class technology stack with advanced AI and data capabilities.

Frederic de Ryckman de Betz, CEO of HOLD Storage, said: "For far too long self storage has been a story of impersonal warehouses run for the benefit of shareholders with little regard for the potential impact on the planet, the product and the service itself on the people who actually use it. That changes from today with the opening of our first site. We are building a company that will help Londoners find the space they need to transform their lives and their businesses in ways that will make a real difference to their futures.”
