The evolving role of OMNI

Oct 05 | 2022

Mark Pitcher reflects on OMNI (Overseas Moving Network International) as he settles into his new position on the organisation’s Board.

Mark Pitcher Mark Pitcher joined the OMNI Board in 2021.  This October will be the first Board meeting he has attended in person, so he’s looking forward to finding out more about how the organisation works.  But what was it about OMNI that made Mark, who must be one of the busiest people in the global moving industry, want to add to his commitments by taking on this new role?

Mark is the group managing director for The Moving Company in New Zealand.  It’s a multi-branch, multi-brand operation that has now grown to become the market leader in New Zealand.  Mark has a very practical, hands-on approach to running his business, so what does he hope to gain from a closer involvement with the organisation of which he has been a member for many years?

He said that his company is a heavy-asset business and he’s very much a ‘bricks and mortar’ kind of a guy. “We do the physical side,” he explained. “I think I have a lot to learn from OMNI about industry leadership, especially from the big players and RMCs. With the calibre of people in OMNI it was a no-brainer that it would allow me to expand my knowledge and understanding of the industry.”

But, of course, it’s not a one-sided relationship.  Mark has a lot to offer OMNI too ...
