Customs clearance changes for movements into Europe

Universal Customs Clearance (UCC) in the UK has advised of a loophole that has just been closed for exporting personal effects to Europe.

The company said that removal companies that were using the Duty/VAT-free loophole via France can no longer use this simplified system.

In future, moves to Europe will require a T-Form to the country of destination and clearance of personal effects on arrival at each destination country. The main issue is the high level of documentation required for Duty/VAT-free entry to many EU countries.  Moves directly to France are less affected.

UCC Export Manager Aaran Ledwidge-Culby commented: “UCC has always done things the correct way since Brexit in January 2021, we have had some calls from old and new clients just in the last few days once again asking for our assistance.”

The company provides customs clearance services for all goods to and from Europe.  Aaran added that it now includes an easy system for exports from the UK, via Dover or Folkestone, to Calais. “Our clients just need to provide copy passport and completed proforma invoice (template available from UCC). They will also need to pay import VAT/Duty in Calais, via USS, of approximately 25% of the declared value on the proforma invoice. There is no need for a T-Form to be raised. All can be arranged and paid via UCC without the need to contact any EU customs agent. Our all in end-to-end customs clearance rate comes in at just under £200 for UK and French Customs.”
