Since 2017, DLF International Movers in Spain has worked closely with CDAI (Disabled Winter Sports Center) to provide the finance, transport and medical help the disabled athletes need to allow them to compete at the highest level.
Some athletes have even achieved Olympic medals in the adapted Olympic Games.
In November last year, however, the tables were turned with some of the athletes visiting the DLF facilities in Madrid to find out a little more about the work of an international moving company, and its professional, social and sustainability initiatives.
CDIA is a high-performance centre for talent detection and the training of specialist winter sports athletes for members of the Spanish Federations of Physically Disabled and Cerebral Palsy. Since 2008, CDIA has had its headquarters in Valle de Aran, Spain, to support athletes with disabilities in their sports development and participation in major international competitions.
The sports and athlete development project of CDIA has achieved a new level of success this season with medals in the Paralympic snowboarding World Championships in La Molina (Girona) and alpine skiing in Espot (Lleida), along with the organisation of various inclusive Spanish Cups and training camps with young athletes, both disabled and able-bodied.
In a few short years, Irati Idiakez (pictured) for example, has emerged as one of the major assets in adaptive snowboarding, allowing her to secure international medals - the latest three at the World Championships in La Molina, consisting of one silver and two golds. She has also learned to manage success on a psychological level and become one of the top athletes in her SB-UL category (upper limb disability).
The CDIA team, consisting of athletes, coaches, and technicians, was impressed by DLF International Movers' effort and dedication to incorporating sustainability into its business model. CDIA expressed gratitude for the invitation and the opportunity to closely understand the company's activities and its environmentally and socially responsible practices.
DLF International Movers expressed admiration for the work and achievements of their athletes. Furthermore, they affirmed their commitment to supporting CDIA as a sponsor and collaborator, expressing the desire to continue sharing experiences and values.
"Supporting the CDIA project was an easy decision to make, as we share values that we try to uphold in our daily lives - teamwork, perseverance, friendship, courage, competitiveness, and sportsmanship,” said Juan Carlos de la Fuente, General Manager of DLF International Movers. “Each athlete has a story of overcoming challenges, bringing us freshness, vitality, and the desire to be like them; they are true champions."
DLF International Movers is committed to the environment and social responsibility, having implemented various measures to reduce its ecological impact and enhance the quality of life for its employees and clients. These measures include: the use of more efficient vehicles and biodegradable materials, the use of solar panels and LED lighting, and staff training initiatives, promoting respect and integration.
