Brits like to stay close to home

Feb 05 | 2025

UK lead generation company Compare My Move has compiled data on over 28,000 house moves to analyse the distances Brits move.

The study has shown that 44% move within five miles of their current home; only 29% of Brits move more than 30 miles away; and 27% move within two miles away. In only 5% of moves did the family move more than 200 miles.

On average, people in London move just 33 miles when relocating, making it the shortest moving distance of any region in the UK. This suggests that Londoners prefer to stay within the city and are less likely to move far. In contrast, Scots move an average of 57 miles, highlighting their willingness to embrace change and relocate further afield.
