The World Series events are usually open exclusively to OMNI members however, demonstrating OMNI’s intent to work together to achieve a more sustainable industry, the January meeting was an open event, attended by OMNI members, non-members, and FIDI staff. The event echoed the sentiments outlined in the FIDI best practice guidelines published recently.
The key speakers at the online event were Dr Johan de Kam, Teaching Fellow, University of Warwick, UK, and Wiebe van Bockel, COO, Voerman Group. Opening the meeting on behalf of the OMNI Board, Nigel Saunders (Nuss) said that both OMNI and FIDI believe that sustainability is of such importance to the industry that it makes sense to work together in helping develop and implement tailored plans. “Our clients and stakeholders have growing expectations that we, along with all suppliers, are taking steps to integrate sustainability planning into our businesses,” he said. He added that having a sustainability plan will likely become a determining factor in getting business in the future. “So, one way or another, whether for the planet or for commercial reasons, bringing a sustainability plan into our businesses just makes sense ...”
