When failure is not an option

Steve Jordan talks to Alan Cartwright of EFM Global Logistics about rock and roll, the pandemic and space exploration.

Alan Cartwright Movers know that every move is critical to the people concerned. If the essential items are not ready when the house keys are, or the antique vase is in pieces, someone’s in for the high jump.

In reality, though it’s annoying, frustrating and perhaps upsetting when things go wrong, it’s usually fixable through a bit of good customer service and with the help of a comprehensive insurance policy.  But that’s not always the case.

There are some moves that cannot go wrong.  When The Eagles walk on the stage at Madison Square Gardens they need their instruments to be there too.  When Courtney Lawes leads his team onto the turf at Twickenham for the Calcutta Cup, he really doesn’t want the trophy to follow the day after.  When the contents of King Tutankhamun’s tomb are delivered to their new exhibition site, finding a few bits missing is just not on.  Then, failure really is not an option.

That is the world that consumes EFM Global Logistics.  Alan Cartwright is the group chief financial officer.  He’s been around the moving industry for many years, notably perhaps with Interdean and Santa Fe and most recently with EMS.  He knows the moving business very well, but it was in 2019 that he was headhunted to join this rather exciting logistics firm.  As it turned out, the job quickly became a bit more exciting than Alan had expected ...
