Steve Jordan chats to Joggie Taute from Move4U about technology, how it’s being adopted in the moving industry and speculates about what the future might bring.
I have always been confused by technology. It’s not the technology itself that causes me stress, it’s trying to work out one from another. You see technology companies frequently send me press releases and information about what they do. But that doesn’t help me. What I need to know is what do they do that’s different?
So, when I found myself in the offices of Move4U, with Joggie Taute, the company’s CEO sitting across the desk from me, I figured this was an opportunity to try to figure out what’s what. It was also an opportunity to discuss the future and frustrations of technology with someone who really knows.
To put all into perspective, Joggie was careful to explain that his company does not provide a full move management system. Move management systems and the applications that support them are different areas of speciality in technology. “We have identified all the processes within a move and tried to develop applications to digitalise them.” He explained, for example, that Move4U has applications for handling surveys, digital inventories, packing, claims and the customer interface. “They collect the information which then feeds into the company’s move management system.”
He agreed, however, that most technology companies have products that are very similar. One area where there is a differential is ISO certifications, specifically ISO 27001, for data security information management and ISO 9001 for quality management. He said that there are companies that are certified, but many are not. “It’s nothing to do with technology, it's about how you set up your company, your procedures, your systems and how you manage it.”
Why does it matter? ...
