An interview with Kylian Schipper of Transpack in the Netherlands, possibly the world’s youngest general manager, looking at the development of groupage in a changing environment.
Transpack in the Netherlands has been around for a while. The company started in 1974 working predominantly with the country’s armed forces. In 1989 it was bought by the Voerman Group to handle private and groupage shipments. As the industry changed, groupage has become more accepted and widely understood, even in the corporate market. Many previously corporate assignees, for example, are accepting lump sum payments as part of their relocation packages, switching them instantly into private clients.
Today the company handles groupage household goods shipments with New York and the wider East Coast USA as its most buoyant destination. Australia and New Zealand have become popular too, especially with returning Australasian nationals. Singapore and Thailand are strong. There is also an historic bond with the Dutch Antilles and Curaçao which are still important to the company.
Kylian Schipper is the general manager. After joining the company in 2018, he took on the GM role 18 months later, at the gentle age of just 22 making him, possibly, the youngest general manager in the industry at the time (if you know otherwise please let the editor know).
So how does Transpack secure its business in an online world? ...
