The PAIMA (Pan American International Moving Association) conference is always good fun. It’s a small group who meet immediately before the IAM conference, in the same hotel.
It’s always viewed by those members who take part as a gentle prelude to the rather more frenetic activity that follows. The PAIMA people are rightly proud of their event which, this year, attracted 141 attendees from 109 companies in 49 countries. The event also celebrated 40 years since PAIMA was formed.
Antonio Tremols, the PAIMA executive director, does an excellent job of orchestrating events on behalf of the Board and the membership. While everyone is milling around, meeting friends, doing business and enjoying the hospitality, it’s Antonio who is gently panicking, making sure everything is ‘just so’. The members of the PAIMA Board also do a good job in managing the business sessions while representing the members’ interests.
The conference is predominantly aimed at networking and attending to the business of the Association itself. The business sessions consist of the necessary financial report, office report, and election of officers. This year Lars Lemche from Teamwork stood down after seven years as president, a term that was unnaturally extended by the pandemic. His place was taken by Jeff Nadeau from DeWitt who will serve as president for two years.
This year PAIMA introduced an upgraded tonnage reporting system designed to highlight the tonnage movements between members of the group and allow members to make appropriate commercial decisions when consigning traffic ...
