FIDI Global Alliance (FIDI) and the Latin American and Caribbean International Movers Association (LACMA) have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the use of the FIDI Professional Cooperation Guidelines (PCGs).
The Guidelines serve as an operational manual on how companies in the moving industry should work together to service international shipments, whether as a booker, origin, or destination agent. By following this MoU, the PCGs are now recognised as an industry norm by all LACMA members.
Jesse van Sas, Secretary General at FIDI Global Alliance said, "This is an important step in further collaboration in the moving and relocation industry, ultimately raising the standards for everyone."
Evelyn de Jaen, General Manager at LACMA added, "With the fast-moving pace of present times and the challenges faced by our industry, LACMA has decided to adopt FIDI’s PCGs. The objective is to join forces in standardising our industry and to cooperate with initiatives that raise the industry’s standards through more efficient and ethical performance of services.”
The PCGs document offers advice on how to work together most effectively and how to act in a conflict situation. By having LACMA members officially endorse them, the PCGs are becoming the reference document for successful cooperation in international relocation. The PCGs, originally developed by FIDI Global Alliance for the benefit of its Affiliates, were adopted by the International Association of Movers (IAM) in June 2018.
Evelyn de Jaen concluded, "LACMA has continuously strived to assist its membership with the improvement of quality services, mainly through education. With this agreement, we continue the task of setting standards and guidelines, thereby ensuring the homologation of moving services throughout our industry; we must all walk the same line. This effort contributes to a more organised and regulated industry," she said.
