Truck operators in the UK who tamper with their vehicles’ number plates in an attempt to
avoid identification are to be targeted by DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency).
From the beginning of February, new enforcement rules will mean those caught by DVSA inspectors will face a fixed-penalty fine and moreover risk being served with an S mark prohibition order and being reported to the Courts or the Traffic Commissioner. Faulty
number plates will be confiscated and used as evidence in the ensuing investigation.
The DVSA says its aim is to better protect the public from rogue operators and unsafe
drivers.
