Maritime Transport, a leading provider of integrated road and rail freight logistics in the UK, has been named Road Freight Company of the Year at the 2023 Multimodal Awards, held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham on 13 June.
The prestigious award marks the fifth occasion Maritime has won the Road category since it was introduced in 2016.
Thousands of shippers, retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, and exporters attended the three-day Multimodal exhibition, alongside 300+ exhibitors offering services across all modes of transport. In line with its environmental strategy, Maritime’s award-winning stand showcased a Volvo FH Electric HGV featuring Volvo’s largest 540kWh battery, to highlight how electric vehicles can be utilised across Maritime’s network to benefit its customers’ supply chains.
The awards evening, hosted by Fifth Gear presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson, saw more than 850 guests gather to celebrate achievement and innovation in the air, road, rail, maritime, and freight forwarding sectors. Winners of each category were voted for by readers of the Multimodal Newsletter, as well as exhibitors and Multimodal attendees.
Alex Williams, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Maritime Transport said, “In 2001, Maritime was a small container transport company, with 191 employees, 136 vehicles, and five depots. Twenty-two years later, we’ve diversified into distribution and rail, employ 3,000 drivers and staff across more than 40 sites, including eight rail freight terminals, and have invested in one of the most modern, eco-friendly fleets in the UK. To receive this award a fifth time is tremendous recognition of what our incredible teams have achieved in two decades, and reinforces our continued drive to provide our customers with security, choice, and added value for first and final miles.”
