John Simpson, the founder of Simpson Packaging in the UK, sadly passed away on Monday, 17 July, 2023 aged 76 after a long battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia.
John founded Simpson Packaging in 1988 after working in removals supply for eight years prior to that. The company has now grown to be the UK’s leading supplier of packaging and handling materials to the removals and storage industry.
Simpson Packaging became an affiliate member of the BAR in 1990 and remains so still. John was an active presence at area meetings up and down the country and a regular at the BAR conference. He also played an active role in the setting up of the ‘Packer of the Year’ competition which ran for many years and Simpson Packaging hosted many of the heats. In recognition of this John was awarded an honorary Fellowship of the Movers Institute in 1997, something very rarely given to a non-removal person.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years Joan, his sons Andrew and James and grand-children Annabel and Freddie. His funeral will take place at 12.00pm on 21 August at St Michaels Church, East Ardsley, Wakefield, WF3 2LJ.
