OMNI (Overseas Moving Network International) held one of its successful World Series of seminars in April, this time focussing on the current state of shipping.
The meeting was chaired by OMNI President, Philippa Robinson, with panellists Cameron Bowie, MD of Hapag Lloyd in Ireland; Joe Knight, Area Head Ocean Contract Manager for Maersk; and Rob van Steensel, Commercial Director of OSA (Overseas Shippers Association). The event was moderated by Steve Jordan, Editor of The Mover Magazine.
As with all OMNI World Series meetings this 90-minute event was targeted at a strategic level with the panellists explaining the current thinking regarding traffic through the Red Sea, global demand versus capacity and the likely effect on pricing in the immediate future, the importance of sustainability to the shipping industry and the lines’ actions towards a greener service, and service reliability. The panellists also discussed the effects of the war in Ukraine, the aftermath of the striking of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, and the effects of the water shortage on the Panama Canal.
This World Series event was attended by around 40 business owners and senior managers from OMNI members worldwide.
