The Swedish Tax Office has announced that Ukrainian nationals, who have resided in Sweden for two years (and who plan to continue living in Sweden), can register with the Swedish Population Registry. This means that they can apply for a national identity number (personnummer). A visit to the Tax Office is required to submit biometrics and undergo an identity check. If granted a national identity number, the Ukrainian national will have access to all the same social security benefits as Swedish nationals, as well as most other services.
Statistics Sweden (SCB) raises median salary
Statistics Sweden and the National Mediation Office have announced a raise of the median salary to SEK 36,500. This will affect the maintenance requirement set by the Migration Agency, for work permit applications. As a result of the annual increase of the median salary, the minimum salary threshold required to be granted a work permit, is now SEK 28,480. In addition to this the salary of a third country national also needs to meet the Swedish labour market standards. This new salary threshold applies for all applications submitted after 18 June, 2024.
