A recent notice from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has advised that from 1 January 2019, some types of trucks will fall within legislation that will require manufacturers to declare HGV CO2 values when selling on the EU market.
The European Commission has developed a test method to measure fuel CO2 emissions from trucks based on the Vehicle Energy Consumption Calculation Tool (VECTO).
Cars and vans have long been subject to CO2 regulations, with both sectors working to meet long-term targets set by the European Union. Since 2013, there has been an EU strategy to bring trucks over 7.5 tonnes into a similar regime.
