In an attempt to ease the effects of the chronic shortage of HGV drivers – now estimated to be around 100,000 - the UK government has announced a temporary relaxation of drivers’ hours rules.
The new rules came into effect on 12 July and will remain in force until 11.59PM on 8 August, 2021.
In an interview with the BBC, Road Haulage Association CEO Richard Burnett expressed his concerns about the new measures and said the government was not listening to what the industry was asking for.
