Steven Meyer, a driver with Arpin Van Lines, spoke at this year’s Memorial Day observance in Montross, Virginia held on Monday, May 27, at the Old Westmoreland Courthouse.
Featured speakers were the Honorable Margaret Ransone, delegate for the 99th Virginia House District, Leisa Billington of Wreaths Across America, and Steven Meyer of Arpin Van Lines.
The names of area servicemen and women killed in action from World War I to the present day, as well as Virginians missing in action, were read out as part of the observance.
“Remembering the fallen and honouring our veterans will always be important to me,” said Steven. “It is essential that we remember the fallen, honour our veterans, and teach our children the value of freedom so we don’t let our fallen die twice.”
For the past six years, Steven has volunteered his time to deliver wreaths to veteran cemeteries on National Wreaths Across America Day. This past year, he was part of Arpin Van Lines’ effort to deliver 23 truckloads containing 92,979 wreaths to veteran cemeteries across the United States for remembrance ceremonies.
